Who Are We?
St Michaels Anglican Congregation is situated in the Gard near the towns of Alés and Anduze and not too far
from Nîmes. This area is in the Midi France. We are made up of a predominantly "British
European" expatriates from the surrounding area. Most of us live in the Gard, with a few living over the
border in the neighbouring department of Herault.
It may be you are about to move into the area and want to meet up with other English speaking Francophiles. You
may be looking for a church but your French language skills aren't yet quite ready for a French Sermon.
In that case, we think we are the church for you.
We are part of the Anglican Diocese in Europe but, if you aren't Anglican, don't let that put you off.
Our church congregation comes from widely different church traditions. Roman Catholic, Methodist, Baptist,
and even a number of Anglicans. The mix of church traditions brings a refreshing tolerance of ideas to
this church.
The age range too, is varied. We have a Sunday School that meets at the same time as the main service. The
parents of the children all attend our church. Often they are joined by visiting children on holiday so the Sunday
School style is very flexible.
A large number of our congregation are retired or semi-retired and come from a variety of professions
and businesses. Architects, Accountants, Police, Military, Teachers, Lawyers to name but a few. Others are working
or studying in the area.
If you are moving into the area we would love to see you at one of our services or events. Likewise, if you are
on holiday or visiting family and would like to come along you will be very warmly welcomed.
This Website is regularly updated so please do return for those changes.
In the meantime please do explore the rest of the Website. We have tried to make it appealing to all who are
looking for a welcome to - and information about - the area.
If there are subjects or issues you would like to see included in this site please do not hesitate
to contact us. Whilst we don't agree to include everything
proposed, all suggestions will be given due consideration.
